Bryan made the winner's circle with a third overall in a French international near Chartres. sidekicks in the circle were Andy Lee with the first place cup and Dave Nicoll in between the two. For the first afternoon moto, the sun carne out in full glory. The spectators were thronged along the track as Andy Lee reached the end of the straigh t mead of the pack. Nicoll had gotten himself into a muddle and had to settle for a rear view of the field around the first comer. H didn't take long for the French Montesa ace, Jean-Claude Novack, to challenge Lee. An exciting battle followed. Several of the tigh t comers were grassy and took a concentrated effort to stay in the groove. Lee proved the better man, and gradually Novack dropped in to a comfortable second place. Bryan Kenney was never more than two bike lengths behind these two, sporting the American flag. In the meantime, Nicoll was slowly picking off his competitors until he worked up to fourth place. And that's the way the positions stacked up with the first four, Lee, Novack, Kenney, and Nicoll, considerably outdistancing the rest of the field. The second moto Novack pleased the ,. This round Lee could manage no third with our sole American settling for fourth. Steeg Petersson, Olle's brother, pulled out of the race in this moto. The night before he had raced in Belgium until 1:00 in the morning, and his endurance by this afternoon was nil. His Kawasaki looked super hairy. At the start of the third moto, the two do-or-die four strokers, Lee and Nicoll, jumped out in front. Bryan was righ t on their exhaust trail. A bit of bad luck for the French flag-wavers - Novack came off pretty bad in the first turn as he was doing some dare devil acrobatics to get mead. By the time the Montesa started up again, Lee had almost lapped him. With a bent rear shock, Novack still managed to finish 10th. Counting on an easy third, Bryan was having no worries until he started to round the corner at the end of the straight and sTid out on the slippery dry grass. Meanwhile, the Belgian, Corbeels, a Czech and several other riders took the corner and were a good distance mead before Bryan got moving. With the minutes ticking away, he overtook all but the Belgian moving back up six positions before the checkered flag called a halt. Overalls for the day went to Lee, Nicoll and Kenney. On schedule for next week is an international near LeMans. Then off to England and Germany for three weeks of GP's. We hear that Mark's Husky stopped him with a broken frame in the Czech GP. Wish we could have been there, too. Hope we all have nothing but good luck the rest of the season. Be watching for the report. Ray 1.opez, who was on the pipe last night, maintained his competitive edge, doing in Ken Zmrt and Dave Rodgers, thereby making it an all Bultaco sweep in the 125 Expert class. _ Rex Staten, who entered in Saturday NGK s1<~ RK PLUGS (U.S.A.). INC.. 12S11 Butrice St.. los Angeles, California 90066 nigh t's Yamaha Superbowl of motocross in the Los Angeles Coliseum, seemed to have everything in tune tonight, taking first overall in the 250 Expert class. His CZ took the measure of Bill Henderson (Yam), Bryan Breker's Bultaco, and Chuck Lunde's CZ. Speaking of Bill Henderson, Bill has been an Expert here at Corona for five weeks, and has yet to fmish out of the money. His
