SRACMX By Mike Kern and Action OZ COLORADO SPRINGS, CO. , MAY 30 The A and B ride rs had it all to themselves this day at Aztec. It was a program the y all liked as the y didn't have to wait a lon g time between motos. The 125B race was a good one both motos as Rod Isham (Yam) and Jim Thornberg (Yam) fo ught each other both motos. Rod to ok "the overall with Thornberg ta king second and Bo Schultz (Suz) followed for third overall. Bob by Cox (Yam) decided La do it in th e 25 0 B clas s and too k th e win wi th Bob Crowder (Ha n) and Dave Meyer (Yam) following in th at o rder. I don't wan t to say that AI Firestine didn't have much compet ition in th e 125 A class but in both motos there WdS no one behind him afte r the start. He truly had a Sunday rid e to ea sily win bo th moto s for th e overall win. Bob Knowles (Yam) and Alan Ray (Suz) put on the show fo r this cla ss for both motos. Alan has no t been-riding in the Expert class very long, bu t with time I think you'lI see a very accomplished rider develop. Dwight Coleman (Yam) finished a respectable fourth overall. • Results in Results Section. Ailstin Motocross Park May Amateur Series By Greg Labbe- AUSTIN, TEX.,JUNE 10 Austin Motocross Park held its second Amateur series during the month of May and if rider turnout during that time is any indication, it was a popular and successful series. As in the last series, scoring was accomplished by subtracting the riders finishing position from the total number of riders in each mota, then selec ting the best five out of six possible moros for a series total. Scoring this way turns out to be somewhat difficult but is the fairest way to selec t the best riders. The series t rophi es were given out about an hour after the day's regular trophies had been distributed. There is nothing quite like getting two trophies in one day. One of th e hardest fought classes th ro ughout the series was the 25 0 Novice with the amazing 44 year old Lloyd Longmire taking his KTM to th e fir st place trophy. In the Open class , Butc h Jennings was able to squeeze out an overa ll victory in some tight. competit ion. Victors in other classes were: Bruce . Finley, 250 Intermediate; Robbie J ones, 12 5 Inte rmediate; Glen Herrer a, 125 Novice "A"; Ottis Lance, 125 - Novice "B"; Terry Curtis, 100 Novice; J oe Davis, Mini Sen ior; Robin Bostick , Mini J unior. • SRAC at Bezerko Park By Action Oz CASTLE ROCK, CO., MAY 3 I , The promoters reversed the order of events this Memorial Day at Bezerko Park. Under ideal weather conditions the 250 A riders lined up at the starting line. Jack Todd, riding under new sponsorship, was off the line on his new Suzuki and appeared for a time to be pulling away from the field. It was later learned that Todd had a bad case of the flu and rather than let his new sponsors down, he would elect to ride all classes regardless. Well, he did his best, particularly during the first mota. Under normal co nditions Todd would have hung on but looming in fourth place back aways was Glasenapp on the Bultaco. Gary had just come off four consecutive mota wins th e day before at Aztec. He was enjoying himself an d when Glase napp is in that mood, watch out everybody! He started picking off riders, first Steve Booth (Mai), the n Mike Meyer (Hus) . By this time Todd was in sight, but still considerably out front. Each lap saw the seconds diminish between rust and second. By the time the mota was halfway, Number One 250 rider, Glasenapp was out in front to take the mota with"Todd CMTRA field meet By Action Oz COLORADO SPRINGS, CO••MAY 23 Well, you have your fun events, and then you have your fun event. This was what you'd call your fun event. From sitting on a balloon to break it, to running to your bike an d starting it and making it across the finish line before anyone else. The group of riders who turned out were the kind that enjoy a lot of nonsense. Other non-senical even ts ' were running around a pole ten times with - your head do wn then goi ng to your motorcycle, starting it , and going across the finish line, all the while dizzy as the original dingbat. Still another was kicking a beer can along until you got it across the line while riding your bike. Yet another was picking up a can at one end of the event area and taking to a circle at the other end. Do this four times and then squirt across the finish line. coming in second on that new ride. Booth finished a very respectable third. The second moto saw Glasenapp get off th e line in much better shape and even though Todd got the scratch; Gary made the pass at the second turn. He just motored away for his sixth consec ut ive moto win in two days. By the time the Open A class got to the line everyone had time to wake up an d realize this was an A points race and were - ale rt an d ready. Glasenapp L grinned, gunned and go t off the line in firs t position and motored. Man and machine were as one as he pulled away - stayed clean of anyone 's dust and pulled in for the win. The second in Open A was a repeat for Glasenapp as he picked up th e marbles for his eighth cons ecu tive moto win. Lest we forget, th ere were othe r rider s. Let me hasten to inform you th at Sh ane Cannon (Kaw) put in a supe r performance for second overa ll. Can no n ran two motes th at under any o the r co ndit ions would have won it fo r him. Brett Hanna (Mai) also ran tw o fine motos to take the third overa ll for the Open As. •
