AI Dennler punched his way around to overall honors with 3·1-5 , Hutch Hutchinson was second with a 7-2-1 , Cal Browning showed with a 2-5-3 and George Meyer hustled up fourth with 6-6-2. That's wide open racing! Dick Varvel and his steamin' CZ gave lessons to th e Amateurs on how to win. Frank Hoshij ima paced his Suzuki to second after winning the last moto. Randy Lyall led the Novices th rough themud an d du st , winning the ftrst and seco nd motos, and first overall. Dan Harris piloted his Bul in super form to second while Howard Zimmerman , on a brand spankin ' new 3 70 Bul, let us all know where he's headed by picking off third overall in his first race on the new mach ine. This is it, fo lks, June 19-20 is the Mammoth Mount Whopper. All of us are loo king forward to the event along with our good riding friends, the Over The Hill Gan g, who will ride support. Both clubs have committed about 65 , riders each arid we 're loo king for more as the day draws closer. White Knuckler knock-about at Irwindale By Tom Blattler IRWINDALE, CAL., JUNE 4 Irwindale Raceway marked the opening race of their "White Knuckler Series" for J uniors and plenty of riders made it out to th e San Gabriel Valley motocross course to compete for lots of prizes. Along with the J uniors and Intermediates, the Pros were at it again. , For the second straight wee k the same three r ider s copped the 125. 250 an d 500cc Pro classes. 25 0 Pro Vince "The Hooker" Van Hook cla imed his third consecu t ive overall win aboard. the super qu ick Track ' 'n Travel Maico , as the Covina Comet defeated one of Irwindale's best, David Taylor . The 125 Pro class featured Dave Carlson, going up against some to ugh co mpetition in Taylor, Gary Denton, J ohn Atwood, Mark Lawren ce and Warren Reid. 500 Pros Val Tamiet t i and Luke Messer bat tled fo r th eir class win, as "Big" Luke took the opening mo to and Val second. But in the next tw o rounds, Tamietti grabbed the wins for the overall. Messer was second with th ird overa ll going to Ted Scruggs. The "White Knuckler Series " will continue throughout the month of June, every Friday night, with June 25 the final for many super prizes. Results in Results Section. • AMEMX: Kline spectacular By Ted Titmas VALENCIA, CAL., MAY 28 Despite a small turnout, the 125 Pro class developed into the hottest race of the evening. Odds on favorites had to be Bobby Kline (FMF), Willy SimonS (FMF) and Bobby Jones (Hon). In the first moto Simons jumped into the lead. Kline immediately tried to grab it away on the first lap, but hit a soft shoulder in the process and went down.
