Lap 11 saw Mees take second from
his main championship rival (Smith),
but Baker's lead continued to grow. By
lap 15, Baker was over three seconds
ahead and starting to catch lapped
traffic at an alarming rate. Despite the
blue flag warning to the lapped riders,
Baker was at the mercy of where he
actually caught the lappers as to where
he could pass.
It seemed like I was maintaining my
gap on Jared. So I thought alright,
that's cool," said Baker. "I thought man,
I've got to get through these lappers
Halbert has been a thorn in the
Indian team's side the last few weeks,
but tonight the FZ-07 Yamaha wasn't up
to the task as Mees quickly dispatched
him to fourth and the Indian rout was
on.
Baker was on a mission to win his
first race aboard an Indian as his ag-
gressive style seemed the perfect fit
for the ever-changing mile oval. Baker's
lead grew to almost two-and-a-half
seconds over the Smith/Mees battle
with Halbert drifting farther and farther
back.
Jared Mees (9) got
around Brad Baker
(6) late in the race
to take his second
straight victory.
