VOL. 54 ISSUE 24 JUNE 20, 2017 P73 My Own Race: 25 MARVIN MUSQUIN 11TH 450MX (16-6) Red Bull KTM's Marvin Musquin left the previous round leading the 450MX points stand- ings, but he hurt his left knee since then. The injury affected his performance at High Point. "This week was all about salvaging points in the championship," Musquin said. "I knew it was going to be tough coming into High Point especially since we were coming in with the red plate. I had to ride both races with my feet on the pegs, basically unable to put my left leg out, which obviously restricted what I was able to do on the track. It was tough. But I gave it everything I had and we leave here second in points so it could have been a lot worse. I guess the next few weeks will be about salvaging points and I will just keep trying to do my best." 3 ELI TOMAC 4TH 450MX (12-1) Eli Tomac admitted that he was "fired up" by Blake Baggett's comments following the Col- orado MX National, but was more bummed out about his fall in moto one than anything. "Yeah, for one, that fired me up," Tomac said. "And two, that first moto was a bummer. I lost the front end. I've done that a couple of times the past few weeks, so it's disappoint- ing for sure, but I came back the second moto and got it done the whole way. I rode like myself early on and kind of felt like Hangtown there." It was Tomac's first moto win since the Hangtown opener. 21 JASON ANDERSON 2ND 450MX (5-3) Rockstar Energy Husqvarna's Jason Anderson grabbed another podium at High Point, but he knows he's not where he needs to be if he plans to win titles. "That first moto, I made some boneheaded moves," Anderson said. "It's nice to get a podium overall, but I'm getting waxed by these guys, so I really want to put my [bike] on the top step, but these guys aren't making it easy, and I've got to keep working my butt off, that's for sure." 20 BROC TICKLE 3RD 450MX (4-4) In the past few years, RCH Suzuki's Broc Tickle has really come into his own in the 450MX class. Earlier this year, he said his speed is finally "coming easy" to him, so he just has to work on getting up with the top guys. He did some of that work at High Point in moto two, chasing the leaders and getting a feel for their pace. "Last week, I got my first holeshot in a while and I didn't take advantage of it, and I wasn't going to let it happen again," Tickle said. "The second moto, I got off to a good start and tried to hang in there with these guys, but they were running a really fast pace and the track was tough today." Still, Tickle snatched third overall with his consistent 4-4 score. 16 ZACH OSBORNE 2ND 250MX (1-2) Zach Osborne chased down Jeremy Martin in moto one to take the win going away, but in moto two, he didn't have anything for Martin, and part of that was due to some seriously bad luck. "I got hit by a huge rock right square in the face," Osborne said after the race. "It splashed all the sweat down into the inside of my lens, so I had to pull my goggles. When I did, it caught on my visor and ripped my visor off, so it was a little bit of a mess. But it's no one's fault but my own that I got hit by a rock [meaning that if he were out front it wouldn't have happened]. It was unfortunate to start 10th or wherever, but it feels good to put in a 1-2 here today and extend my points lead, so I'm happy with that." 108 DYLAN FERRANDIS 4TH 250MX (4-4) Star Yamaha's Dylan Ferrandis got his first taste of the heat and humidity of the AMA Nationals at High Point, with a 90-plus-degree day with high humidity. It's not what MXGP racers are used to, but he was solid on his way to fourth overall. "I'm a little bit tired," Ferrandis said. "It was not easy today. It was my first time with so much humidity and heat. It's good. I push hard, but that second moto was really difficult. The track was really rough, but I gave it everything I have."
