IN THE WIND P32 HAYDEN LAID TO REST IN OWENSBORO N icky Hayden was officially laid to rest in a ceremony at the St. Stephen Cathedral Church in his hometown of Ow- ensboro, Kentucky, Monday, May 29. The 2006 MotoGP World Champion, Hayden died from injuries sustained when he col- lided with a car while cycling in Italy on May 22. Hayden's funeral was at- tended by hundreds of mourn- ers, with the ceremony presided over by Father Tony. "To the world, Nicky was world champion, hero, a winner. He was that to us too. But again, to Rose and Earl, he was a son. To Tommy and Jenny, Roger Lee and Kathleen, he was a brother. To Jackie, he was a soul mate," Father Tony said. "I started thinking of words which we could use to describe Nicky. There are a lot of them: Kentucky Kid, giver, listener. He was determined, driven, goal ori- entated. At age three, he listed a number of things he wanted to accomplish in life and he came pretty close to accomplishing them all. "He was loyal, not only to his family but to his friends. If you were a friend of Nicky, you were a friend for life. He was funny, the life of a party. Witty. He was grounded in who he was. He was comfortable in his own skin. There's another word we've probably seen the side of—mischievous. In his senior year, he was voted by his peers as most mischievous of all! "But as I reflect upon those words, while they do Nicky justice, there's another word that I'd like to concentrate on; Nicky was a gift to so many people. He was a gift to you, his par- ents, and to your family, and to Jackie. He was a gift, first and foremost." Nicky Hayden is survived by his parents Earl and Rose, siblings Tommy, Jennifer, Roger, and Kathleen, and his fiancée Jackie Marin. CN Hayden was laid to rest in front of hundreds of onlookers and thousands on Facebook live. ROSSI INJURED IN MOTOCROSS TRAINING CRASH V alentino Rossi was involved in a motocross training accident on Thursday, May 25, at the Cross Club Cavallara in Mondavio, Italy. The nine-time World Champion suffered mild thoracic and abdominal trauma and was taken to hospital in Rimini, but checked himself out of hospital the following morning. He is expected to take his place on the grid for Italian MotoGP, June 4. Rossi sits third in the standings on 62 points behind teammate Maverick Vinales (85) and Repsol Honda's Dani Pedrosa (68). CN Rossi will need all the strength he can get for this weekend's Italian MotoGP.
