Tyler Bowers (Yam) had moved his way up to third in the standings, but now he sits fifth and only has 21 points between himself and Blake Baggett in sixth with two rounds left to run. Geico Honda's Jeremy Martin an- nounced prior to the Salt Lake round that he is officially out of the Super- cross championship and won't line up again until the start of the outdoors due to a bulging disk in his back. Cade Autenrieth gave supercross a go for the second time of his career in Salt Lake City, riding for the Auto- trader/JGR Suzuki team. Last time, circumstances conspired against him to keep him from qualifying for the main event in Seattle, but in Salt Lake City, he qualified for the main event out of his heat race and ended up 13th. RCH Suzuki's Justin Bogle got off to a fast start in the 450SX main, nab- bing the holeshot before dropping back a few positions. Later on, he suffered a nasty crash in the whoops while running fourth. He eventually pulled out of the race. One race (two weeks ago) after he had to sit out the night in Seattle with a minor concussion, Monster Energy Kawasaki's Josh Grant returned for Salt Lake City and was on fire, win- ning his heat race and then running in the top three in the main event before losing a spot to teammate Eli Tomac, and another to Marvin Musquin late in the race. Still, he matched his best finish of the season with fifth place. "That's honestly it," Grant said about his starts. "We've struggled to get off the gate, espe- cially in the heat races, but I'm feeling really good today. That weekend off kind of helped, so got a little fresh- ened up and just glad to be out here having fun. It's good." My Own Race: 25 MARVIN MUSQUIN 4TH 450SX Red Bull KTM's Marvin Musquin was one of only two racers behind Eli Tomac off the start in the 450SX main event, and he still managed to fight his way up to fourth, passing Josh Grant late in the race for that spot. "I was struggling with my starts in the heat race and in the main event," Musquin said. "I had a really bad start in the main and it put me in a really bad position, but we put our head down and came back to fourth place, which is good on a track like that. With the conditions that aren't my favor- ite, hard-packed and slippery, I was able to make some good passes and showed good speed so I'm happy with my riding." 24 AUSTIN FORKNER 6TH 250SX WEST Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawa- saki's Austin Forkner missed the last round in Seattle with an injury suffered while practicing prior to the race, but he made his return in Salt Lake City and was running second before the whoops bit him. "If I can take away anything from tonight I am really happy with how I rode overall," Forkner said. "I made a small mistake that led to a bigger get-off, but it could have definitely been worse because those whoops were eating up a lot of people. I'll take the sixth." cont. on page 104
