WIN FOR YORBA AT 29 PALMS BIG 6
I
t was a long time coming after
a rocky start to his season, but
defending champion Eric Yorba
got his first win of the season in
the MSR District 37 Big 6 Grand
Prix Series presented by Maxxis
on April 8. The fourth round of
the series, put on by the Hill-
toppers MC at the 29 Palms
Motorsports Complex, April 8-9,
saw a very rough, high-speed
course, one that took its toll on
several riders, including would-
be winner Robby Bell. In the
end, it was Yorba, Trevor Stew-
art and Zach Bell who filled out
the podium of the West Coast
GP feature race.
Yorba got out to a good start
on his Maxxis FMF RPM KTM
and took the early lead. The
defending champion would lead
most of the way until a hard-
charging Robby Bell reeled him
in. The Rocky Mountain ATV-MC
Precision Concepts Kawasaki
rider steadily made his way for-
ward from third place, dispatch-
ing of JCR Factory Honda's
Trevor Stewart before setting his
sights on Yorba. A mistake by
Yorba with two laps to go let Bell
slip by for the lead.
"I just made a little bonehead
move here on the moto section
and blew a turn and that's where
Robby [Bell] got by me," Yorba
explained. "But after that I just
tried to ride it smart race just for
the rest of the race."
Yorba was ready to accept his
runner-up finish, but on the last
lap, only minutes from the finish,
Bell had a hard crash that left
him unconscious.
Defending
champion Eric
Yorba scored
his first win of
the year at the
Hilltoppers GP
in Twentynine
Palms.
