WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP VOL. 54 ISSUE 7 FEBRUARY 22, 2017 P49 It was a little past halfway when it became clear Dungey was going to have to deal with his teammate Musquin, who won his first 450SX main event a week earlier in Texas. Musquin caught his teammate and went to work, eventually sneaking by for good on lap 19 of the 26-lap race—a significant move because it repre- sented a four-point swing in favor of Musquin in the title chase, and added two more points to the number Tomac could make up with the win in Minneapolis. "Well, what I did today is ex- actly what I wanted to do," said second-place finisher Musquin. "I mean, obviously last weekend it was the perfect main event, but I want to battle with those guys, too. If I get a bad start, or a so-so start, I just want to catch up with those guys and battle. That's what I did. Those two, front going into a left-hander. Davi Millsaps (Rocky Mountain ATV-MC KTM) took over with Tomac, defending champ and points leader Ryan Dungey, Tomac's teammate Josh Grant, Jason Anderson (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna), and then Musquin in tow. It took Tomac a couple laps to find a way around Millsaps, but found his chance when Millsaps hesitated exiting a right-hander, and Dungey was quickly into second. Dungey tried to latch on to Tomac, but Tomac steadily pulled away. "I mean, hometown or not, you for sure want the win," said Minnesota's own Dungey. "I got off to a great start there with Eli. He was running some good laps and we were right there in tow. I just fell off the back and made a few mistakes." (Above) Eli Tomac has taken over the 2017 Supercross Championship—at least on the track. He's still down a big chunk of points but there is a lot of racing left. (Top right) Marvin Musquin has appeared to reach a new level in his career. He reeled in and passed his teammate Ryan Dungey.
