.... = • III III ~ g ...and some were very well dressed. Our second event was the 60 Expert. Scott Redell and Jim Lesnieswski, both on Yamahas, battled it out for first position. Jim had it the first moto but the second moto was a different story. This ~me it was Scott's tum and he didn't give it hack. Vick Darlic (Yam), after hike prohlems, took third. The 80cc Experts were the ones to watch. Shawn KeUy (Hon) and Gene McCay (Hon) were both battling it out . for YAMA's number one points. From the first lap to the checkered these two riders were the ones to watch. These boys from two different states, Shawn from Texas and Gene from Tennessee looked as though they rode together every weekend. Neither was willinp; to give the other an inch. They we.re so close you never knew who would be the leader next. But it was Shawn Kelly who took the lead and Gene who took second. These boys really gave the spectators a show. It didn't matter whether you had a son, brother, nephew or cousin in this event, you couldn't tear yourself away from the race for first. It was that exciting. Duane Marker (Cha), all the way from Wenctcher, Washington, took third. The final race of the day was the 100 Expert. Brad Roberts on a factory sponsored Bamt immediately took over the lead the first moto but lost it to Jimmy Wright (Hon). Brad took second and Mark Pledger took third on !tis Steens. Hrynkewicz on his Cole Brothers 250 Maico had some gear prob- lems in the first molo of the combined 250(Open class. He went on to win the moto after sorting. things out. Mark Sullivan (Hon) was second. . Sullivan grabbed the lead in the second moto, but John caught him on the back chute and was first to the black and white flag in the second moto. In the third moto, rains made the track a giant slip-and-slide and John slid through for an easy victory and first overall. Little brother Dan Hrynkiewicz took a lesson from John and picked up the checker in the first moto of the combined Mini/Super Mini class. He put his Kolbe Honda XR-75 through its paces and bagged the flag again in the second moto. With two firsts and first overall secure, Dan went out and played in the mud, coasting to third place and the overall win. Another Hrynkiewicz? Yep. Baby brother Paul turned up the wick on his Yamaha mini enduro, held together with duct tape, and picked up first in his class.
