Red Bull KTM's Ryan Dungey was fastest in timed
qualifying, but he faced off against Roczen in their
heat race, and Roczen (third-fastest in timed quali-
fying) made quick work of the defending champ,
snatching the holeshot and taking off, setting the
stage for a main-event showdown.
"It was important to keep the focus, not get too
confident and have it possibly hurt you," Roczen
said. "I wasn't too worried about not being first in
qualifying practice. I'm not the greatest at putting
down just one fast lap. I always look forward to
racing. It's where I have the most fun at, too, so I
was looking forward to the night show."
In the main event, Dungey knew he had to get
out front, and he managed to do that, with team-
mate Marvin Musquin right behind him, then Roc-
zen. Musquin made a costly error right away when
he nearly crashed, and then shot off the track. He
managed to hang on to third, but it left teammate
Dungey no breathing room in dealing with points
leader Roczen.
"I was really happy about my start and I was try-
ing to be really aggressive and pass Ryan [Dung-
ey]," Musquin said. "I went on the inside double
