Dalton Shirey put an emphatic
end to his recent run of bad luck
by dominating the 31st Annual
Prospectors Motorcycle Club
Grand Prix, round seven in the
eight-race AMA District 37/MSR
Big 6 Grand Prix Series, at Gor-
man, California, November 5-6,
winning the two most impor-
tant races of the weekend: the
$2000 AMA Big 6 West Coast
Grand Prix (WCGP) Series
feature race on Saturday and
the Heavyweight Expert race on
Sunday.
More than 1100 entries made
the Prospectors GP at the Quail
Canyon MX Track facility one
of the biggest of the season,
and the Prospectors provided
them with a seven-mile course
that encompassed the moto-
cross track, fast sand washes
and slick fire roads. With state
officials reportedly limiting the
amount of water the club could
use, dust was a factor, mostly on
Saturday.
Shirey, however, stayed out
front in mostly clean air (at least
until he started lapping people in
the WCGP race that was short-
ened from 90 to 75 minutes due
to the previous race running late
after separate injuries required
calling in two medical helicopters.
After getting pinched off in the
first turn, Shirey went to work
and moved into the lead before
completing the first lap aboard
his Torco/Pro Circuit/Troy Lee
