ROAD RACE
FIM WORLD SUPERBIKE CHAMPIONSHIP
ROUND 13 / OCTOBER 28-30, 2016
LOSAIL INTERNATIONAL CIRCUIT / DOHA, QATAR
P56
On the last day of school, the
final championship points saw
Rea with 498, Sykes 447, Davies
445 and van der Mark 267.
Hayden finished out the year
fifth at 248.
"I hoped to win a race this
year, somehow, someway,"
Hayden said. "WorldSBK has
been a good move for me. I still
love MotoGP and there is some-
thing about that atmosphere
and intensity that is awesome.
But I like it here and it has been
a good step for me at 35. I still
like racing and I still think I have
something left in the tank. I like
Sylvain Guintoli. He was an as-
sured third, overtaking Sykes, as
he looks for a new job in 2017.
Sykes was fourth in race one,
Hayden fifth and privateer Ducati
rider Xavi Fores (Barni Racing
Ducati) sixth.
The second-race off-podium
action was dramatic enough,
with Guintoli fourth for a tidy fin-
ish, but recent BSB Champion-
ship runner-up Leon Haslam was
blowing everyone's perceptions
and minds with a fifth place on
his Pedercini Kawasaki, only 11.8
seconds from Davies' win after
10 intense laps.
race. With a sealed engine there
is only so much they can try to
change. As soon as I went out
for warm-up, I knew. We made it
for two laps of warm-up. Luck-
ily it happened two laps later,
because three laps earlier would
have been in yesterday's race.
Unlucky as I was having to start
from pit lane and not getting to
do any warm-up. I also caught a
few breaks with the red flag."
The podium of race one had
one great novelty, as a Pata
Yamaha Official World Superbike
R1 got a third place, in the hands
of the recently seriously injured
