PEICK, JGR GOING SUZUKI?
T
here have been rumors flying lately that the
JGRMX Team might be switching brands for
2017. Since the team's formation in 2008, they
have been aboard Yamahas, but there's been
a lot of talk about them recently going yellow.
Evidently, the team's contract with Yamaha ran
out at the end of the 2016 season so anything
can happen.
We recently saw what appeared to be Weston
Peick testing out Suzuki machinery at Cahuilla
Creek MX last week. Peick has been with the
JGRMX Team for the past couple of years along
with Justin Barcia and Phil Nicoletti. Peick rode
Suzukis prior to his switch to JGRMX. CN
HILL TO TAKE ON STRAIGHT RHYTHM ON
ELECTRIC MOTORCYCLE
J
osh Hill, a former AMA 450 Supercross winner,
will compete at the upcoming Red Bull Straight
Rhythm on an Alta electric-powered motorcycle.
Hill retired from professional racing in 2015 but still
rides on a regular basis. He will compete in the
250 class as that is the current target in terms of
performance for the new bike.
Alta is hoping to be the first electric motorcycle
to seek victory in national-level events by tapping
Hill to race the company's Redshift MX model at
the unique supercross-inspired event, Red Bull
Straight Rhythm, taking place at Fairplex in Po-
mona, California, October 22.
"This event is going to be a great test for the
Redshift," said Derek Dorresteyn Co-Founder and
CTO of Alta Motors. "We've taken a stock Redshift
off the line and made some pretty trick upgrades
to match Josh's riding style and we believe we will
be competitive with the 250-class gas bikes."
Alta has been ramping up their racing program
and seeks another success to go with their re-
cent national win at round four of the EnduroCross
series.
Alta Motors and Hill will compete in the 250
class in qualifying against 11 of some of the best
riders in the country, vying for one of the eight
spots in the event finals. CN
