HASLAM DOUBLES UP AT ASSEN
L
eon Haslam's
British Superbike
Championship chal-
lenge received a much
needed shot in the
arm at Assen over the
weekend, with the Ka-
wasaki rider taking two
race wins over title rival
Shane Byrne (Ducati) to
close to within 17 points
of the series lead with
one round remaining
at Brands Hatch in two
weeks' time.
Haslam's double win
came after two intense
battles that included
Byrne, Kawasaki team-
mate James Ellison,
the factory Hondas of
Jason O'Halloran and
Dan Linfoot and the Ka-
wasaki of Luke Mossey.
"It's fantastic to be
leaving here with the
double," Haslam said.
"That second race I
was watching Shakey's
pit board and could see
him coming through the
pack so I knew he was
there and that last lap I
rode defensively to get
it done. A huge thanks
to the team, we strug-
gled a bit but they got
it turned around and
we can head to Brands
with a chance. Shakey
rode fantastically today
and Brands is his home
round so we know he'll
be fast, but I'm feeling
good on the bike and
we know our strengths
so I'm looking forward
to it!"
Americans John
Hopkins (Yamaha) and
James Rispoli (Yamaha)
took 10/DNF and
15/22 results, respec-
tively. CN
