IN THE WIND P42 CHUCK "FEETS" MINERT PASSES A MA Motorcycle Hall of Famer Chuck "Feets" Minert, one of the best off-road racers in Ameri- ca during the 1950s, passed away September 24. He was 85. Minert exceled in all types of motorcycle racing, from speed- way to trials, from desert racing to scrambles, and later, in mo- tocross. Minert rode a factory- backed BSA for much of his racing career and was loyal to the British brand long after the bikes were past their competitive prime. "It's a sad day for motorcy- cling," said fellow Hall of Famer Tom White. "We have lost a great friend, a tough competitor and a true champion." Minert rode all of the famous races of his era, such as the Big Bear and Greenhorn Enduros, the Cactus Derby and the Elsinore, Hopetown and Catalina Grand Prix events. It was at Catalina in 1956 where he earned the big- gest win of his career. Minert met BSA motocross legend and future Hall of Famer Jeff Smith when he came to race in America. And, in 1969, Smith invited Minert to England to race in British and European moto- cross events. The European tour proved to be a highlight of Min- ert's career. In the early 1970s, Minert, then over 40, remained a lead- ing American rider in West Coast Trans-AMA races. He was one of the few riders to score national points in both Trans-AMA Moto- cross and AMA Grand National races. While he eventually quit racing nationals, Minert never totally retired from racing. He continued competing into his 80s. He was inducted into the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 1999. Minert is survived by his wife, Gloria, daughters, Linda and Glen, grandson John, and son-in- law Wayne. CN Hall of Famer Chuck "Feets" Minert passed away at the age of 85. HUSQVARNA RECALLS 2017 MODELS A possible defect with front- brake master cylinders have forced Husqvarna to recall certain frame numbers of 2017 TC, FC, TX, TE and FE models to authorized Husqvarna dealers for an inspection and, if necessary, replacement of the front brake cylinder. The recall notice reads: "It has been determined that anomalies in the manufacturing process have resulted, with certain batches, in hand brake cylinders with defective machining from the supplier. This can lead to early wear of the sealing cup in the hand brake cylinder, thus leading to impaired braking performance. As the anomalies are restricted to specific batches, the hand brake cylinder must be checked and the affected batches replaced." The following models are af- fected by the recall (the list may vary based on country specifica- tion): TC 125, TC 250, FC 350, FC 450, TX 125, TE 250, TE 300, TX 300, FE 250, FE 350, FE 450 and FE 501. Owners of affected motor- cycles will be informed by a personal letter and are asked to immediately contact an autho- rized Husqvarna Motorcycles dealer to arrange an appointment for inspection. In addition, cus- tomers can check online in the "Service" area of the Husqvarna Motorcycles website to determine if their motorcycle is affected by this recall. The check and/or replacement of the front brake cylinder will be carried out at no cost to motor- cycle owners, but must be per- formed by authorized Husqvarna Motorcycles dealers only.
