it up and wins the San

DANI PEDROSA BECOMES EIGHTH DIFFERENT WINNER IN EIGHT RACES
Rossi (Movistar Yamaha) had
qualified second to teammate
Jorge Lorenzo, and it was the
latter who took off in the lead.
On the second of 28 laps, the
hometown boy triggered a cheer
from a 100,000-strong crowd,
mostly wearing yellow, with a
forceful overtake at one of the
twisty circuit's slow corners (see
Briefly page 81).
For the next 20 laps it looked
as though the fans' dreams of a
Rossi win would come true. He
thought so, too. He didn't have
the pace to escape, he said,
"but I had a gap of about a sec-
ond from Lorenzo, and I could
manage that."
But the stopwatches told a
different story. Pedrosa had got
away well enough from the third
row of the grid, into sixth. On lap
11 he broke the lap record for the
