IN
THE
WIND
P28
almost the entire distance, So-
fuoglu blasted his way past early
usurper PJ Jacobsen (Honda
World Supersport).
"I immediately took the lead
because PJ was slow in font of
me," said Sofuoglu. "I passed
him and tried to pull a gap, and
the plan worked very well. With
the last five or six laps to go, I
started to slow down a little bit
because the left side of the tire
was worn. I saw that PJ was
coming closer, so I started to
push again and it worked out
well. I am very happy because
we took a Superpole win, a
winning race and 25 points. You
cannot ask for more."
Sofuoglu's only competition in
the race proved to be Jacobsen,
who pushed hard in the final
laps as Sofuoglu's rear tire had
given all of its best and more,
in what were suddenly cooler
but dry conditions on race day
than those experienced through
practice and Superpole.
Jacobsen closed in but the
four-time champion, Sofuoglu,
pushed on again and kept the
margin of victory up at 1.569
seconds.
"At the beginning of the race
I let Sofuoglu get away a bit
too much, because honestly I
thought that tire wear would have
been higher than it turned out to
be in the end. With seven laps
to go I started pushing to try and
bridge the gap to Kenan, but two
laps afterwards, I almost had a
big high-side and that told me I
was on the tire limit already. I did
all I could but obviously it didn't
pay off. But I believe that from
now on we'll have the chance to
be at the sharp end of the field
at every track."
Jacobsen had set a pace that
third-place rider and second-
place championship runner
Randy Krummenacher (Kawa-
saki Puccetti Racing) could not
match at the end, as the former
GP rider found himself not quite
at his best around one of his old
stomping grounds.
Fourth, in what was an all-
British battle, was Gino Rea
(GRT Racing MV Agusta) with
Triumph rider Luke Stapleford
(Profile Racing) fifth and just half
a second from Rea.
A brilliant run from Kyle Smith
(CIA Landlord Insurance Honda)
saw him fifth.
In the championship Sofuoglu
has 121 points, Krummenacher
95 and Jacobsen 76. CN
