Track season, the first repeat winner

Smith repeated his Phoenix win at the Cal-
Expo Fairgrounds in Sacramento.
While the outcome may have been the
same, it was a totally different race. Smith
led at the finish of every lap, but he was un-
der constant pressure for the entire 20-lap
race (shortened due to a fear of excessive
tire wear).
"Everybody says you're out front and
your bike is fast and they think it's easy.
It's almost better if you're second or third,"
said Smith. "When you're leading it, all the
demons start talking to you. You hear all
the noise demons in your bike. You start
thinking about your tire, everything besides
riding the motorcycle."
