VOL. 53 ISSUE 19 MAY 17, 2016 P37
one to fourth (and almost third),
Jeremy van Horebeek was fifth
with Romain Febvre coming all
the way through from 17th to fin-
ish sixth.
In the second race, every-
thing looked great for Gajser
in front of a large contingent
of Slovenian fans in what has
become his "home" GP (Slo-
venia borders Italy and is only
a few hours' drive away). He
got the holeshot and was in
the process of checking out
when disaster struck and he
dropped down the field to sixth.
This saw Cairoli take over the
lead (much to the delight of the
larger contingent of Italian fans)
but their joy was short-lived as
Romain Febvre was on another
charge, passing the Italian on
one of the many downhills.
Cairoli's second place was still
good enough to win the overall
and tighten the gap at the top
of the MXGP Championship to
25 points. Tim Gajser eventu-
ally made it back up to fourth in
the moto for third place on the
day with Febvre joining him on
the podium in second. Unfor-
tunately for Max Nagl he got a
horrible start in the second race
and could only make his way up
to eighth for fifth overall, behind
Kevin Strijbos who went 3-6 for
fourth.
Lone American MXGP rep-
resentative Darian Sanayei is
getting better and better in each
round of the EMX250 series,
scoring 23, 35, 37 and now 42
points in the four rounds so far.
Unfortunately for him, he was up
against Thomas Kjer Olsen who
was on top his game with two
victories in completely different
conditions. The first race was
a rainy, muddy slop-fest while
moto two played out in bright
sunshine. Sanayei now sits in
third place in the championship
and will be looking forward to
continuing his good run at the
next round in Spain.
