HERLINGS' MOTO STREAK ENDS
AT TRENTINO MXGP
A
fter a wet and miserable
Saturday, the sun came out
for an epic race day at the pic-
turesque MXGP of Trentino, May
15. Tucked up in Northern Italy,
this truly spectacular motocross
track became a bit one-lined
after a good dose of rain, but
the riders still produced some
great action in both MXGP and
MX2 classes.
In MX2, Jeffrey Herlings' moto
streak was finally broken after a
race-long duel with Dylan Fer-
randis, which saw the French
rider hold off the Dutch phenom
all the way to the checkered
flag. Behind those two, Pauls
Jonass held off Jeremy Seewer
for third with Max Anstie finish-
ing fifth and Samuele Bernar-
dini sixth. The Italian TM rider,
Bernardini, has been showing
good speed of late but it was still
a shock to see him post the fast-
est lap of the race.
In race two, Herlings got a
good start and, although it took
him a couple of laps to pass
Robert Justs in first (showing
just how one-lined the track
had become), he then checked
out, while Ferrandis struggled
back in the pack. Eventually
he made it up to third, but it
wasn't enough to stop Herlings'
run of overall victories. Jonass
rounded out the podium with
a second place while Seewer
dropped some big points after a
horrific first lap, eventually finish-
ing in 12th. Bernardini put in his
best performance of his career
in fourth overall with a pair of
sixth-place finishes.
It doesn't seem to matter how
one-lined a track becomes in
MXGP because if those guys
want to pass one another, they
find a way. The first moto saw
Antonio Cairoli get the holeshot
and lead from start to finish, but
he came under a decent amount
of pressure from Max Nagl and
Kevin Strijbos in second and
third. Behind them, Tim Gajser
came from ninth place on lap
Jeffrey Herlings
saw his MX2
moto win streak
come to an end
in Italy but he is
still perfect in
overall wins.
