CHAMPIONSHIP

restart, but I had to keep con-
centrated because it was only
the first lap. There were 15 laps
to go and I kept pushing. After a
few laps I saw Hayden Gillim in
front of me so I tried to catch him
and I did. I'm pretty happy and I
have to say thanks to the mar-
shals for cleaning the track and
everyone for working so hard the
last two nights because I crash
(in practice). I can't wait for the
next race."
Gillim (Cycle World Suzuki
GSX-R1000) was a star of the
weekend as the privateer took
10-4 results in the rain for sec-
ond overall in Superstock 1000
behind Corti and in front of a bril-
delighted Claudio Corti. Riding
the HSBK Aprilia, not only did
the Italian take the Superstock
1000 wins, he also gave it good
and proper to the majority of the
Superbikes. His two Superstock
wins vaulted him into the cham-
pionship points lead with 111
points, nine clear of Wheels In
Motion/Meen Motorsports' Josh
Herrin.
Avoiding the crashing Jake
Gagne (Broaster Chicken
Roadrace Factory Yamaha YZF-
R1) in race two, Corti said, "I
lose many positions (avoiding the
crash). I was scared because
I almost hit him. I had to brake
hard and almost stop and then
time the new championship
leader by four points over his
young teammate.
"I can't say there are too many
times where I've wanted to settle
for second, but for that race, I
guess I did… at least a little bit,"
Hayes commented at the end
of race two. "Cam rode a really
good race, just like he did in the
first one. Sometimes, you have
to take what you can get in these
things. I'm happy to be in first
place in the points, and it's great
to have us one and two in the
championship, especially after
how things have gone for us so
far this year."
Third at New Jersey went to a
Corti (71) rode
like a man
possessed in
the Superstock
1000 class.
Pegram (72)
proved he's still
got it.
