ROAD RACE
MOTOAMERICA AMA/FIM NORTH AMERICAN ROAD RACING CHAMPIONSHIP
ROUND 3 / MAY 1, 2016
MILLVILLE, NEW JERSEY / NEW JERSEY MOTORSPORTS PARK
P62
"At the beginning, I was
kind of stressed out because I
thought I was riding better in the
second race," Cameron said.
"But then, I saw '+0' on my pit-
board, and I said, 'Oh, no.' But,
I just tried to be smooth, and I
was able to stretch out the lead
as the laps wound down.
"This weekend, for both Josh
and me, has been great be-
cause it's been a huge recovery
in points for us. Now, we are one
and two in the championship,
which is a great place to be at
this point in the season."
Hayes played it safe in both
races and leaves for round five
at Road America in one month's
victory in dominant fashion.
"For me, that was one of the
most difficult races I've run in
my career," Beaubier said. "I've
been in rain races before and
I've won, but it was really tough
out there. It seemed too easy to
give it just a little bit too much
throttle, and get into trouble, so I
really had to focus on what I was
doing."
Race two was more of the
same, although this time Beau-
bier made the most of pole
position by taking the lead at the
first corner and riding into the
distance on a treacherous track.
The rain had let up, but the track
still had plenty of standing water.

For Beaubier, the objective was
clear: use this round to get back
in the hunt and hope for a touch
of misfortune for his rivals. It
worked out almost better than he
could have hoped for. Beaubier
has worked tremendously over
the years to improve his speed in
the wet and this time it was used
to excellent effect, as the cham-
pion laid down a pace simply
untouchable by his rivals.
Race one was held in tor-
rential conditions with Beaubier
missing the start from pole to
trail teammate Hayes into turn
one. He quickly took the lead
however, and then cruised to
New Jersey was
nothing short
of a disaster for
Toni Elias who
slipped to fourth
in the points,
13 behind new
leader Hayes.
