WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
VOL. 53 ISSUE 17 MAY 3, 2016 P51
Plessinger has had even worse
starts land him with fifth place in
both races.
Meanwhile, Stewart made the
most of a bad race in Foxbor-
ough, where he led but finished
third, and with only a five-point
lead going into New Jersey,
Stewart stepped up at exactly
the right time to put a nail in this
championship's coffin. Stew-
art was absolutely dominant in
MetLife Stadium, making quick
work of the leaders and then
running away with the race while
his closest championship rival,
Plessinger, could only manage
fifth (after starting outside the
top 15) and Martin could only get
up to third.
Stewart has put himself in the
best possible position to clinch
his first professional champion-
ship in Las Vegas this coming
weekend, leading Plessinger by
14 points and Martin by 19.
There's only one potential
wrench in this title chase: The
Las Vegas East/West Shootout
is going to combine both coasts
and pay points. That means
if Plessinger were to win, for
example, and Stewart were to
fall or simply suffer a terrible
start and only be able to catch
up to 11th—behind, for example,
Plessinger, Cooper Webb (who
also leads the 250cc West by 14
points going into Vegas), Martin,
Joey Savatgy, Davalos, Shane
McElrath, Christian Craig, Zach
Osborne, Tyler Bowers and Gan-
non Audette—Plessinger would
win the championship.
Malcolm Stewart (50)
jumped out to an early lead
in the 250SX main, which he
would go on to win.
