It started with Rockstar Energy Husqvarna's Martin Davalos going 1-3 in the first two rounds to lead the points going into round three in Toronto—where he failed to show up, officially due to "per- sonal reasons," but was actually because of visa issues. Yamalube/Star Racing Yama- ha's Jeremy Martin took over the title lead after Toronto with 4-1-2 finishes in the first three rounds, but then crashes relegated him to 13th and 21st place finishes at rounds four and five. These rounds are also where GEICO Honda's Malcolm Stewart and Martin's teammate Aaron Plessinger caught fire, each trad- ing wins and runner-up finishes in the two events. Stewart took a solid lead of 10 points after Indy, but then immediately crashed himself out of contention a week later in St. Louis, where he fin- ished eighth and had his lead cut to only one point. With momentum then solidly on the side of Yamaha team- mates Aaron Plessinger (second in St. Louis, one point behind Stewart) and Jeremy Martin (win- ner in St. Louis, 16 points behind Stewart with three rounds to run), the two failed to capitalize on the opportunity.
