SUPERCROSS MONSTER ENERGY AMA SUPERCROSS SERIES, AN FIM WORLD ROUND 12 / APRIL 2, 2016 LEVI'S STADIUM / SANTA CLARA, CALIFORNIA P82 450SX II ALL DUNGEY The 450SX class got off to an interesting start with all four of the previous 2016 SX winners—Jason Anderson, Eli Tomac, Roc- zen and Dungey—all getting off to promising starts to the day and evening. Monster Energy Kawasaki's Eli Tomac reeled off the quickest lap time in qualifying and both Roczen and Dungey won their heat races. Anderson fin- ished second to Roczen in his heat race (and nearly even beat him), so the Santa Clara main event had serious potential of being a doozy, but it just didn't turn out that way, despite three of them—Dungey, Anderson and Roczen—all occupying the top three spots by the second lap. Tomac was the odd man out with a bad start; he was in 16th. GEICO Honda's Justin Bogle actually snared the holeshot, though Anderson might've had it had Justin Brayton not used him for a bumper stop after swooping in on him from the far out- side. Anderson didn't go down but it did cause him to back off on the throttle just for an instant and that cost him a couple of positions. Bray- ton, however, hit the ground. Dungey got past Bogle in the third turn (though Bogle didn't simply give it to him), then Roczen and Anderson also got by the Honda rider in quick succession. Now it was Dungey, Roczen and Anderson out front, with Chad Reed also getting by Bogle for fourth. This was it, the race everyone was expecting, but the fireworks fizzled out. Dungey was just too strong and pulled away. Roczen did give Dungey a race for a while and made one real pass attempt on the eighth lap but could not muster another attack for the rest of the race. Dungey was killing everyone in the turns on the hard-packed, though somewhat tacky track, and no one had an answer, not even Roczen. Dungey entered the turns hard and Ryan Dungey felt Ken Roczen's presence the whole race but didn't panic. He stepped it up when he needed to and took his sixth win of the year.
