IAN LAUGHER TO PILOT
SUTER MMX 500
T
he question of who will
steer the two-stroke Suter
MMX 500 at the Isle of Man TT
this year has been answered.
Ten-time TT winner Ian Laugher
will be at the controls of one of
the most exotic machines ever
to race the mountain, as he
reunites with old racing foe Eskil
Suter for the endeavor.
"I really warmed to Estil
Suter's approach on this proj-
ect," Laugher said. "Despite
the emotions that are undoubt-
edly attached to something
of this nature, Suter Racing is
approaching it both objectively
and professionally which is the
only way to go racing on the
TT course. We want to learn
the MMX 500 in the next three
years to tackle the
TT step by step
before we can be
properly competi-
tive and it might
seem strange for
an old fella to say it but you can
always learn something new on
the Isle of Man. However, I'm
sure the spectators are in for a
treat from the word go."
Laugher raced against
Suter during the 1991 European
250cc Championship and has
a multitude of two-stroke race
wins under his belt including
five consecutive North-West
200 125cc titles and numerous
Southern 100 wins.
He retired from competitive
TT racing in 2013 after a career
that started in 1984, although he
still races the Classic TT, having
taken the 500cc and Formula 2
race victories in 2014. CN
