50 Years Ago February 17, 1966
We told you about two adventurous motorcyclists who were about to embark on
a rather lengthy adventure. They planned to ride their Suzuki X-6s from America
to the Cape of Good Hope and back. Mike Hoover and Jim Parks, of Burbank,
California, hope to sell their story to a TV network… We ran a photo of Dick
Hammer leading Jack Simmons, Eddie Mulder and Skip Van Leeuwin in
conjunction with our coverage of the TT opener at Ascot.
40 Years Ago February 17, 1976
We wished Happy Valentine's Day "to the eternal
love affair of man and machine" 40 years ago… The Winter-AMA Professional
Motocross Series got underway at North Florida Raceway in Jacksonville,
Florida, where Tony Distefano came away with the 250cc Pro win and Bob
Hannah the 500cc Pro win… We ran a preview of the upcoming motocross
season, highlighting the riders and teams. We titled it "The Class of '73"…
Brian Myerscough, Eddie Clark, Warren Reid and Donnie Cantaloupi were
just some of the names in this week's headlines.
20 Years Ago February 14, 1996
Ty Davis was featured on the cover 20 years ago for winning the opening
round of the AMA National Hare & Hound Series at Lucerne Valley,
California… Jeremy McGrath had to work for his win for the first time in
the 1996 Supercross Series. Damon Huffman gave McGrath a race at the
Seattle Supercross, but the defending champ held on to win… We rode
Aaron Slight's Honda RC45 Superbike… Jeromy Buehl won the PJ1 Super
Arenacross Series round at the Kansas ExpoCenter.

Johnson finally got his first supercross victory in front of the home crowd in San
Diego. Donnie Schmit won the 125 Pro-Am final… We caught up with Dick
Mann and interviewed the legendary motorcycle racer… Doug Dubach, Brian
Manley and Phil Larson were the start of the Marysville CMC Golden State
MX round… Kenny Bollmeier, Todd Harrell and
Mark Murphy starred in the Florida Winter Warm
Up Series at Diamondback Raceway.
