Sumter's tight and sandy trails, but you might
not have guessed that at first. He was just
the fifth-quickest rider in the first test, but he
quickly got back up to speed, posting top
times for the rest of the day, which included
winning one of the six tests. He and Bobbitt
would battle it out for the win most of the day.
Baylor was stoked to get the victory. "The
race went pretty good, I can't complain," he
said. "I felt pretty good at the start but got
water in my goggles and had to take them off.
I lost a little bit of time there."
Baylor was second-quickest in test two,
and he followed that up win a win in the third
test.
"Test three moved me from fifth to first, I
think," Baylor said.
Tests four and five kept Baylor in the top-
three with a third in both tests.
"I think riding on a later row helped out
today," said Baylor. "The trail was beat in and
bermed up. It worked out good except in test
four. It was pretty much a swamp."
For this season, the National Enduro Pro-
moters Group (NEPG) moved the pro riders
back 10 rows to even thing up a bit. Previously
riders on row 21 were breaking trail in some
races. So for this season, the previous race
winner will ride row 31 followed by each place
one row on back.
Baylor ended up edging out Bobbitt for the
overall win by 18 seconds.
The four-time National Enduro champ had
good consistent scores all day, although he
never managed to win a test. Bobbit is com-
ing from a back injury suffered last year and
is now riding a more forgiving 250cc four-
stroke.
"I got off to a decent start, third I think,
and pretty much stayed that way most of the
day," the FMF/KTM Team rider said. "I never
knocked out a win, so I'm kind of bummed
about that."
