HAYES ON TOP AFTER COLORADO
ARENACROSS TRIPLEHEADER
S
uper Bowl weekend saw
a super-sized Arenacross
round in Colorado Springs,
Colorado, where riders took on
a tripleheader at the Broadmoor
World Arena, February 5-7. Vic-
tories by Gavin Faith on Thurs-
day and Jacob Hayes on Friday
made it look like the weekend
was going to be another Bab-
bitt's Kawasaki flush, but a
flawless victory by KTM's Travis
Sewell on Saturday night put a
stop to the green domination in
Colorado. In the Lites division,
Daniel Herrelin took the opening
night win, but Ben Nelko had a
breakthrough weekend, taking
back-to-back wins on Friday and
Saturday to move into the West-
ern Regional Arenacross Lites
points lead.
The busy weekend opened
with Faith taking his first main
event win of the season. Faith
followed that up by riding to an
improbable third place finish in
the second main (after getting
out to a poor start), and his 1-3
score delivered his second vic-
tory of the season. His team-
mate Hayes finished second
with a 5-1 and Sewell finished
third with a 4-2 aboard his
Woodstock/TZR KTM.
Defending champion Kyle
Regal started the weekend
well with a respectable third-
place finish in the opening main
event, but the Rockstar Energy
Husqvarna rider's night quickly
unraveled when he rode off the
track in the second main, result-
ing in a 10
th
-place finish, and a
3-10 score for sixth on the night.
Hayes enjoyed the victory
on night two in Colorado with
a 1-3 score, leading the all-
