VOL. 53 ISSUE 1 JANUARY 12, 2016 P25 HONDA PATENTS LIVE INSTRUCTOR R iding schools may be a thing of the past if Honda has its way over the next few years. The big H filed a patent for a live computer instruc- tor that talks to the rider in real time, assessing their riding and making suggestions on how to improve their technique. According to AutoEvolution.com, The system operates via an array of sensors fitted to the motorcy- cle like lean, pitch, wheel speed, gear position, g-forces, etc, analyzes the data and suggests ways the rider can improve via either an intercom system or a digital dashboard face on the motorcycle itself. The system could prove incredibly useful for almost every level of rider and riding scenario, from early-stage beginners riding street to adventure riders and advanced track riders. It's only in patent stage at this point, however the benefits to riders across the globe are huge, so watch this space. CN BMW 310 SPORT BIKE ON THE WAY R umors out of India have BMW in the process of building faired variant of the new G 310 R naked bike. The new sport bike will use the G 310 R as a basis but will likely receive changes to ergonomics and some engine changes, including exhaust. BMW will be the ones develop- ing the bike while actual con- struction will fall to TVS, BMW's Indian partner and the firm largely responsible for the G 310 R. The G 310 R is BMW's first foray into the low-capacity/ learner market, and is powered by a single-cylinder four-stroke pumping out 34hp and 20lb- ft. It's also got inverted forks, ABS and four-piston brakes as standard, making it a good basis for a sport bike or even an adventure variant – like KTM is rumored to be doing with their 390 project – in the future. CN This little bike could be the start of something big for BMW. "Computer says, no." Riding instructors could soon become a thing of the past with Honda's intelligent system.
