11TH ANNUAL OLD SCHOOL MX REUNION/5TH ANNUAL AHRMA VINTAGE NATIONALS
P62
(Above) Clean but not pristine, meant to be raced,
this 1975 Kawasaki KX400 belongs to Loyd Morgan
who previously raced CZs. "The suspension's a little
bit better [on the Kawasaki]," he says, "especially for
old-timers!" Morgan got started racing in AMA District
37 desert events in 1971 before moving to Texas in '74.
This KX is basically stock and he earned a 2-4 third
overall in Vintage 70+ Expert on it. Morgan's stable
includes about a dozen vintage bikes, at least the
running ones.
(Right) Lyle Lovett (black cowboy hat) had hoped to
ride, but getting back from his latest months-long
concert tour on Thursday night left him with no time
to get ready, to say nothing of recovering from that
tour. Still, he came out to hang out and cheer on his
many friends, including his old teammates on the H&H
Music Company Racing Team that was a powerhouse
in Texas motocross back in the '70s. Track officials
presented Lovett with the Richard Sanders Lifetime
Achievement Award for his support of the motorcycling
community as well as Rio Bravo, his local track.
