KOPP PUTS A HUSKY

All Joe Kopp wanted to do was
try to qualify for the Superpres-
tigio of the Americas. He didn't
quite make it, finishing second
to Briar Bauman, 26 years his
junior, in Friday night's AMA Pro
Flat Track final. What Kopp may
have done in the process is not
sure coming in of course, just
because it's a short track and
what happened to Bryan (Smith),
that was my biggest fear, kind of
like beating yourself. I've done
a lot of these indoor races and I
know that sometimes the fastest
guy can end up sitting on the
bumper of his truck watching the
race."
Mees said at this point he
plans on keeping his same team
together and making another
the podium a remarkable nine
times in the 13-race series. He
overcame the heartbreaking loss
at Charlotte where he had the
race won before his bike broke
on the last lap.
"It's awesome," Mees said of
