PEICK CROWNED KING OF LILLE
I
n the wake of the terrorist
attacks in Paris, France on
Friday night, the Paris-Lille
Supercross, which was slated to
take place just 140 miles north
of Paris, was nearly cancelled.
But with ramped up security
and the spirit of determination,
French promoters elected to
move forward with the race.
Despite the somber tone, over
40,000 spectators came out to
the Stade Pierre Mauroy over
the weekend where the classic
French event (formerly known
as Bercy Supercross) took
place. While the French team
was brought home the national
victory, it was American Weston
Peick who was crowned "King
of Lille" after two nights of rac-
ing.
Many were expecting to see
James and Malcolm Stew-
art battle for the win, but the
weekend didn't quite go as
planned for the Stewarts. On
Saturday night—the first of the
competition—James was off to
a good start, having topped the
Superpole ahead of Christophe
Pourcel. But from there it was
downhill. After crashing in his
heat race, James came together
with his brother Malcolm in
the main event for a crash that
would end his weekend. James
limped back to the pits while
Malcolm rode around to finish in
last place.
James did not reemerge
for Sunday's program, while
Malcolm lined up only to crash
again in the main event and fin-
ish outside the top-10.
The dueling Yamahas of Peick
and Cooper Webb were the
stars of the show on Saturday
night. The Americans dueled it
out for the lead with Webb nos-
ing his Yamalube/Star Racing
Weston Peick
won Saturday
night and
finished second
on Sunday to
claim the overall
win at the Lille
Supercross.
