VOL. 52 ISSUE 44 NOVEMBER 3, 2015 P37 T he Triumph Street Twin is the baby in the Bon- nie line up and for 2016 comes with a new 900cc "high torque" eight-valve parallel-twin four-stroke engine that punches out a claimed 80Nm at 3200 rpm, some 18 percent more than the old 865cc ma- chine. Euro 4 emissions targets dictate the Street Twin be fitted with liquid cooling, which means a 36 percent reduction in polar bear kill- ing emissions. The radiator is heavily disguised so as to give the appearance of air-cooling, because, if it's liquid-cooled, it's not retro, right? Triumph has also fitted the latest generation of their ride-by-wire throttle (with the bodies cleverly designed to look like a carburetor). This means smoother, more di- rect power from the parallel- twin that will no doubt suit riders looking to get into the game or those looking to take a step back to some- thing a little more sedate. To that end, the RBW system has allowed Triumph to fit switchable traction control to the Street Twin, and there's the ubiquitous ABS fitted front and rear. The Street's chassis has received a going-over and the ergonomics revised, these include a new seat, longer suspension travel, higher set bars and a slim- mer tank profile. Triumph knows people are going to customize these things and have got two platforms ready to go in the Scrambler, Brat Tracker and Urban Inspiration kits. The Scrambler comes with goodies like a Vance & Hines exhaust, different seat, bar grips and sump guard; the Brat Tracker gives you pipe, seat, LED indicators and more, and the Urban a pipe, small screen and pannier.
