UDALL'S TREAT AT GORMAN WCGP O x Motorsports Honda's Colton Udall seemed to lay back during the early go- ing of the 90-minute AMA West Coast Grand Prix (WCGP) Series feature race at the 30th Annual Prospectors Motorcycle Club Grand Prix. He seemed content to lay back while Precision Con- cepts/Alamo Alarm Kawasaki teammates Justin Seeds and Robby Bell led the way at the Quail Canyon MX Track venue for round seven of the AMA Dis- trict 37/MSR Big 6 Grand Prix Series. Just after the halfway point, though, Udall passed both of his rivals and held on to win for the fourth time this season with round six winner Bell forced to settle for second this time and John Burr Cycles Kawasaki- mounted Ryan Reina taking third after Seeds dropped back due to a minor mechanical issue. "I decided last minute to pit early so I pitted on lap four," Udall said. "I can pit on lap four or lap six because my tank's bigger than most of the competi- tion. So I pitted on lap four and totally surprised my pit crew. "We caught a bunch of lap- pers on that lap so I was able to reel [Seeds and Bell] back in re- ally quick; by the end of the lap, I was right on them again." Shortly after that, Bell pitted, handing second place to Udall who passed Seeds a few miles later. From there, no one could match the pace Udall set on his Michelin/Galfer/MSR-backed CRF450X. (Udall won Unclassi- fied earlier in the day.) "Honestly, I just didn't quite have it today; it was an off day for me," FMF/Dunlop/MSR KX450F-mounted Bell admitted. "But taking nothing away from Colton—he earned that one for sure! The dust was gnarly and he was pinning it in the dust." IN THE WIND P20 Colton Udall chased in third for the first half of the WCGP but dominated the second half for his fourth win of the season.
