IN THE WIND P22 MARQUEZ AND ITALIAN TV IN ALTERCATION! T he fallout for Marc Marquez and Valentino Rossi's infa- mous incident at Sepang contin- ues, with Spanish media reports stating Marquez was involved in an altercation with Italian TV presenters from Le lene (The Hyenas) outside his house in northern Spain. The presenters allegedly confronted Marquez when he returned home after a flat track session and attempted to pres- ent him with a mock trophy. A scuffle then broke out between the reporters and Marquez and his family, with Le lene's cameras broken and minor injuries to the reporters and Marquez. An unofficial statement from Marquez's management team was released, promising to bring down the full force of the law upon the hosts of the satirical TV program. "A group of people appeared at the rider's home and shouted a series of insults, made certain ridiculous and humiliating actions towards the rider himself and even pushed and assaulted his closest relatives. "Given the seriousness of these actions, such acts have been condemned and the nor- mal course of criminal proceed- ings will be followed against such persons." CN ROSSI APPEALS TO CAS V alentino Rossi has lodged and appeal with the Court of Arbi- tration in Sport (CAS) against the three penalty points he was fined following his on-track altercation with Marc Marquez at Sepang. Rossi's three-point penalty brings him to a total of four (the other point earned for block- ing Jorge Lorenz in qualifying at Misano), meaning he will have to start from the back of the grid for the final title deciding race at Valencia. It can normally take up to a year to have a case heard at the CAS in Switzerland, however, there is an option for the case to be heard in the short term in order to temporarily suspend the penalty. This would allow Rossi to start his qualifying position, rather than last place. The FIM, the governing body of international motor- cycle sport, released the following statement: "On the basis of Article 3.4.2, para 3 of the FIM Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix Regulations, Mr. Valentino Rossi has filed an Ap- peal against the decision taken by the Race Direction of the Shell Malaysia Motorcycle Grand Prix in Sepang, penultimate round of the FIM MotoGP Grand Prix World Championship, and confirmed by the FIM Stewards, to award 3 penalty points to Mr. Rossi following an incident on Turn 14. "In appealing to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), Mr. Rossi seeks annulment or reduc- tion of the penalty. He further requests stay of execution of the decision in accordance with Ar- ticle R37 of the Code of Sports- Related Arbitration. "The FIM will not comment any further at this time."
