trix log section and he eventually
fell back to a fifth-place finish.
Just past the midway point
of the 15-lap main, Haaker had
made his way to second after
several mishaps on the first few
laps, but Webb had now opened
a safe lead, which had Haaker
choosing to play it safe to secure
second place. But Robert had
other ideas. After his second

technique to clear it and used it to
their advantage. Haaker jumped it
just one time during his afternoon
hot lap and all of the other riders, in-
cluding Webb, chose the slower, but
safer route through the water.
After two short practice sessions in
the afternoon, the top 30 pro riders
do a Hot Lap one at a time against
the clock to determine the gate picks
and groups for the three heat races
that kick off the evening show. They
run in reverse order from qualifying
and current points so the lap times
typically get quicker with each rider.
Mike Brown set the fastest time by us-
ing his spectacular leap over the water
hole to gain some time. Cody Webb
and Colton Haaker, who came into
the Sacramento event tied on points,
rounded out the top three. Utah's Nick
Thompson continued his impressive
season by setting the fourth fastest
time ahead of SRT Racing's Cory Graf-
funder. Taylor Robert, Cooper Abbott,
Destry Abbott, Ty Tremaine and Kyle
Redmond rounded out the top 10.
The top two riders in each of the
three heat races do a second Hot
Lap during the evening show to settle
the top six gate picks and the fastest
rider earns a bonus point. Brown
again set the time to beat, with his
leap over the water hole helping him
turn in 38.486-second lap. Webb
was the last rider to go and he man-
aged to better Brown's time with a
38.339 second lap despite taking
the safer line through the water hole.
For the second time this season,
father/son duo Destry and Coo-
per Abbott qualified for the pro main
event. Destry made it directly to the
wards after a collision with Haak-
er and Graffunder on the huge
log wall, he was moving through
the pack quickly and running the
fastest lap times, as he too was
jumping the water hole, while
Webb and Haaker chose to play
it safe. Haaker made a mistake
on the last lap, which allowed
Robert to take second while
Haaker settled for third.
