Briefly...
excited to bring the top flat track
riders in the country to Delaware
International Speedway," said John
Zimmerman, one of the promoters of
the event, along with Charlie Cathel,
Bob Jones, Cher Zimmerman and
Johnny Zimmerman. It was a late
arriving crowd at Delmar. Most of
the fans filed in not long before the
evening program, well after the day
practice and timed qualifying ses-
sions. "I was sweating it out there for
a bit," co-promoter Johnny Zimmer-
man said. But then long lines formed
and by the time of the first heat race
the stands looked filled nearly to ca-
pacity. "I'm starting to relax a little,"
Zimmerman said as he looked out
over the stands, which were quickly
filling. His dad used to promote the
Harrington Half-Mile, so he grew
up around racing. "If we can fill this
place up we'll bring it back year after
year. We picked this time of year be-
cause of the Delmarva Bike Rally is
going on and it draws about 100,000
bikes in Ocean City, which is only
about 25 minutes from here. So
we've done a lot of advertising in that
area. And my dad and I have traveled
a lot this summer to different bike
rallies and shows all throughout the
Mid-Atlantic and the East Coast. We
didn't do a typical program. We did
a free handout, one that we passed
out to all the businesses about three
weeks before the race, so when
people come down here they can
plan out what they're going to do.
And it gave our advertisers three
weeks more exposure. They had a
motorcycle race here at this track
before, but it's been over 40 years
ago and it wasn't a national. We've
worked hard on social media. Our

It's a dream come true for me
to be racing motorcycles and it
always has been. I have accom-
plished a lot in my career and I'm
thankful for it. We just need to
keep winning races."
