RYAN SIPES THE LONE BRIGHT SPOT FOR TEAM USA

A
fter runner-up finishes in the
all-important FIM World Tro-
phy competition for two years
in a row, Team USA expected even
more at the 90th International Six
Days Enduro (ISDE) held for the first
time in eastern Slovakia. Anything
but a win would be less than satis-
factory for the squad that had never
climbed the top step of the podium
at the longest running international
off-road world championship.
So when the half dozen men
comprising this year's team—Mike
Brown, Thad Duvall, Taylor Robert,
Kailub Russell, Ryan Sipes and
Gary Sutherlin—found themselves
out front after the first day, hopes
soared for that long hoped-for first
victory.
Russell and Sipes led the way
for Team USA by not only heading
their respective classes (E1 or 125cc
two-stroke/250cc four-stroke for
Russell, and E2 or 250cc two-
stroke/450cc four-stroke for Sipes),
