I
t was a comeback victory for
Sean Butterman as he scored
his first-ever Open Pro National
win at the 3rd Annual AMA
Supermoto Sturgis National
Presented by Metzler in Sturgis,
South Dakota.
The Ryder Smith Racing rider
has made the long journey back
from breaking both arms last De-
cember and has been struggling
all year with the injury.
"Unbelievable," said Butterman
about his first win. "To be able to
battle the whole race with Micky
(Dymond) and (Tyler) Sweeney
and come out on top was the
best feeling in the world."
Two-time AMA 125cc Moto-
cross and 2005 AMA Unlimited
Supermoto Champion Micky
Dymond brought his Intents Rac-
ing Honda home in second with
Cycle 128's Tyler Sweeney third.
Unfortunately for series-points
leader Gage McAllister, his win
streak came to an end in Sturgis
as the Intents Racing Honda
rider suffered brake problems
and limped his way around the
track to finish eighth. In the end,
the Northern Californian still sits
on a healthy points lead in the
championship going into the
final round of the series at Muss-
leman Honda Circuit in Tuscon,
Arizona, November 6-8.
In the Pro Lites class, Nicky
Reimer took his fourth win of
the season and clinched his
first National Supermoto title a
weekend early.
"What a great weekend," Re-
imer said. "The AMA Supermoto
and The City of Sturgis put on a
first-class event. We came into
the weekend with a solid points
lead, and I really wanted to win
here in front of all these fans. All
of the Pro Lites series competi-
tors were here, and I knew this
wasn't going to be easy. I got
comfortable on the track in the
first practice and kept push-
ing in every session. This win
is definitely the highlight of the
season."
He was joined on the podium
by Open Pro winner Sean But-
terman and Travin Wiley.
