uying a new helmet is
one of the joys of riding.
New helmets look, smell
and feel great, but before you
go and spend your hard earned,
you've got to make sure your
new shell fits like a glove (sorry,
couldn't help myself on that
one).
The biggest mistake riders
make when buying a helmet is
they get one too big. One too
small is easily recognizable, but
one too big is harder to identify
and is just as dangerous, if not
worse. Ill-fitting helmets are one
of the big causes of injuries and
fatalities in motorcycle crashes,
and it's easy to make the mis-
take of thinking a helmet fits
when really it's too big. And
like leather, helmet foam linings
will eventually loosen their
shape and the helmet won't
fit on your head after a while,
making your safety investment
null and void.
Picking a
helmet need
not be as
confusing as it
sounds. Rennie
hasn't figured
that out yet.
