New helmets look, smell and feel great, but before you go and spend your hard earned, you've got to make sure your new shell fits like a glove (sorry, couldn't help myself on that one). The biggest mistake riders make when buying a helmet is they get one too big. One too small is easily recognizable, but one too big is harder to identify and is just as dangerous, if not worse. Ill-fitting helmets are one of the big causes of injuries and fatalities in motorcycle crashes, and it's easy to make the mis- take of thinking a helmet fits when really it's too big. And like leather, helmet foam linings will eventually loosen their shape and the helmet won't fit on your head after a while, making your safety investment null and void.
