Briefly...
dahl raced mainly cross-country, so
the Jack Pine was the 19-year-old's
first enduro. Herfindahl rode an Air-
Group Racing Husqvarna to 15
th
in
the Pro division in his first national
enduro. "It was fun, but definitely dif-
ferent from what I've ever done," said
Herfindahl. "I crashed a few times,
but it was fun."
Three-time AMA 250cc Motocross
and Supercross National Champion
Jeff Stanton made the trip to Michi-
gan after riding the Legends race the
day before at the Ironman National
Motocross in Indiana. He finishied
the Jack Pine in ninth in the Rekluse
AA-Expert division on pretty much a
stock Honda. Stanton has a place
in Cadillac, Michigan, not far away,
and often trail rides with his son and
nephews. "It was awesome," said
Stanton. "We wanted to all ride it last
year, but the boys did. I had to take
my daughter to college. We've been
doing some hare scrambles having
fun with it, and I had a blast today.
This was a great event."
The Jack Pine Enduro, this year
sponsored by Wiseco, is in its 90
th
year, and in the early days, it was
so prestigious that the winner of the
event was considered the National
Enduro Champion, all the way up
until the 1960's when the National
Enduro Series was started.
In the Rekluse AA-Expert division,
Drew Higgins and Evan Smith con-
tinued their battle for the crown, with
the two riders finishing 11
th
and 12
th
,
Higgins edging Smith by just eight
seconds.
