IN THE WIND P24 HONDA AFRICA TWIN REVEALED! T he Honda Africa Twin specs were mistakenly put online for a brief moment in time on the Honda Portugal website last Wednesday, July 22, letting the world know what's in store for them with one of the most eagerly anticipated machines in years. Honda HQ no doubt was very upset by this as the post was quickly removed, tech specs of a new machine being a closely guarded secret and all. A day later Honda officially released the specs, so we now know the new Africa Twin will be powered by a 998cc parallel-twin, DOHC, eight valve four-stroke putting out a claimed 93 hp at 7500 rpm and 72 lb-ft of torque at 6000 rpm. Bore and stroke will be 92 x 75.1mm and the en- gine will be mounted with a six-speed DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission)-equipped gearbox that was first seen on the VFR1200 five years ago. The chassis will be a semi-cradle steel unit matched to a steel subframe, and the braking package includes twin 310mm discs, four-piston, radially-mounted front cali- pers and out the back a 256mm disc, twin piston caliper will be matched to a two-channel (switchable) ABS system. It will measure in with a wheelbase of 62 inches and will tip the scales at a claimed 502 pounds for the standard, non-ABS/DCT assisted machine, 511 for the ABS model and 534 for the DCT-equipped bike. American Honda is planning for the first batches of the Africa Twin to be available in the spring of 2016.
