VOL. 52 ISSUE 30 JULY 28, 2015 P25 YAMAHA CONFIRMS XSR700 Y amaha has just released images of the new XSR700, a custom-inspired machine based off the FZ-07 roadbike that's been selling out across the world. The XSR700 is the production version of the custom FZ-07 build by Japanese legend Shinya Kimura, and channels the company's 1970s style but with the modern technologies present in the FZ. Unveiled under Yamaha's 'Faster Sons' concept, the XSR700 is basically an FZ with revised bodywork, but the beauty of the machine is that it will appeal much more to the custom and café-racer crowd. The engine is the same 270° crank, 689cc parallel-twin as found in the FZ, as are the suspension, chassis, swingarm and brakes. A sin- gle round headlight sits in front of a revised, round LCD dash, reworked tank in old-school green or silver and pulled-back scrambler-style handlebar. There's a slightly taller seat matched to a reworked subframe and a pin-stripe-stitched seat. And finally out back is an ultra cool round LED taillight that perfectly matches the front. Yamaha will no doubt be aim- ing at the Ducati Scrambler with the XSR700 and might draw a few cus- tomers away from Bologna thanks to the XSR's retail price of $6990. A full list of specs and dealer details will be released in November. Rennie Scaysbrook PHOTO COURTESY OF YAMAHA The deluge of new models from Yamaha just got retro with the XSR700.
