H
e's back. Marc Marquez and his
Repsol Honda were invincible
at the Sachsenring. Again. He
dominated practice, qualifying, and the
race. Something so familiar, but some-
thing we haven't seen since the second
race of this year.
And they're back… Honda also, after
a season charitably described as "diffi-
cult" for the hitherto dominant RC213V.
Dani Pedrosa took an emphatic second
place. It was the team's first one-two
since this race one year ago.
The Sachsenring is the shortest track
of the year, making for a giddying 30
laps for 93,000 sun-soaked fans. Pretty
much every one of them a thriller—and
not because of Marquez. He'd taken
the lead from fast-starting Jorge Loren-
zo on the fifth lap, and steadily pulled
away. By half distance he was better
than 3.5 seconds away, and the job
was done.
It was, as almost always, Lorenzo's
Movistar Yamaha teammate Valentino
Rossi that played the crowd-pleaser,
with a stirring if ultimately fruitless battle
with Pedrosa for second. More impor-
tantly, as MotoGP breaks up for the
summer season, he has extended his
points lead over Lorenzo, who dropped
