VOL. 52 ISSUE 28 JULY 14, 2015 P31 DUCATI AND BMW ENJOYING SALES GROWTH I t's seems the North Ameri- can market can't get enough of Ducati and BMW these days, with the two European giants seeing sales up by 12 percent and 10.5 percent, respectively, in the first half of 2015. For Ducati, the story has been a globally suc- cessful one, with the Bologna company register- ing an international surge of 22 percent so far in 2015. Ducati North America sold 6961 bikes in the six months to June, a month that also saw an amazing 1981 bikes sold—a 106 percent growth from June in 2014. "This record is the result of the hard work and dedication of the entire Ducati organization and our network of dealer partners who strive to deliver the most premium motorcycle ownership experience imaginable to our customers," said Dominique Cheraki, CEO of Ducati North Amer- ica. "This commitment is reflected in the world-class design, technol- ogy, performance and quality of our products as well as the premium level of customer service." The result has solidified the North American market's impor- tance for Ducati, and with orders still yet to be filled, Ducati believes this momentum will continue into the colder second half of the year. BMW has also been enjoying a stellar 2015, with the Bavarian giant selling 78,418 motorcycles and scooters worldwide—15,490 of those in North America in the first six months of 2015. Internationally, the number one machine in BMW's line-up is the R 1200 GS and GS Adven- ture (14,099/10,429 units). Something to be expected, but the company also saw strong sales from the R 1200 RT (6471 units) and the smash hit R nineT, with 5868 units delivered. The revamped S 1000 RR superbike also saw solid gains for BMW with 5654 bikes getting into new hands, while the S 1000 R naked bike was delivered to 4134 new customers.
