CHAMPIONSHIP VOL. 52 ISSUE 24 JUNE 16, 2015 P157 To be closer to the guys up front is even more amazing." Knapp went 2-3 on his TOBC Racing Yamaha. It was another solid outing for the Michigan rac- ing veteran and VIR winner, but with the speed shown by Gagne and the addition of speedy South African Sheridan Morais, Knapp and crew understand they're going to have to step up their game. "It's been going really good this year, so far," Knapp com- mented. "I was running a pretty good pace today, and I was comfortable with it. I got into a good battle [with Superbike rider Danny Eslick], and I'm looking forward to seeing what this R1 can do when I get a little bit of clear track in front of me. But, I'm happy to get second for TOBC racing and for Yamaha. Race two was pretty similar to race one for me. Danny and I battled it out again, stuffing each other back and forth, and it was actually a lot of fun. He was bet- ter than me in some spots, but I was able to get the best of him in other areas on the track. All in all, I'm very happy with two podi- ums. It was a good weekend for us, and we're looking forward to going to Utah." Tyler O'Hara scored a podium in race one in spite of battling with a slipping clutch and other issues on his Chisum/Motul Racing Yamaha. He did not start race two. "The second race I made the sight lap," O'Hara said. "Then I made the hot lap. Coming through turn 15-16 on the hot lap before the start my bike shut off. So I pulled into the pits right away to see if we could get it fixed. We got the bike to fire again but the race director said once the leaders crossed the start finish after one lap, and I didn't start the race I couldn't rejoin the race." Aprilia HSBK Racing's Sheri- dan Moriais ending up second in the Superstock 1000 class after crashing out in race one. Mark Heckles went 4-5 on his Ryders Alley Racing Yamaha. Shane Narbonne rounded out the top five in race one on his GN Gonzales Yamaha. In race two it was Josh Day tak- ing fourth on the Yamalube/ MAZZIOTTO AND MCALLISTER TRADE WINS It was Anthony Mazziotto III earning his first victory in KTM RC390 Cup action in Saturday's race one. The Jimmy Winters Motorsports rider was in front when the race was red-flagged and ultimately called official because of a downed bike in the racing line. Second went to Hayden Schultz with Gage McAllister taking third. "I'm glad I was able to finish the race, let alone be on top of the podium," Mazzi- otto said after two non-finishes in the opening round at Road America. "It was definitely a great race for me and a great race for them. I wish it would have gone down to the last two laps, because that would have been an insane last lap. It definitely feels a lot better to be on top of the podium now. I love racing motorcycles and it's just a bummer when you can't finish." Series leader McAllister came back and won a scintil- lating race two over Mazziotto and Schultz. Just .346 of a second separating the top three at the line. McAllister, who won both races in the opening round at Road America, leads the title chase by 43 points over Shultz. Jody Barry is third with 46 points—just one more than Mazziotto. "Today was good," McAllister said. "I tried to keep myself toward the front a little bit further during the race so I could be across the line in a better position just in case the red flag did come out again. I got a good drive out of the last turn and was surprisingly not drafted by the line so it was a good race and I'm really happy with my performance." (Left to right) Anthony Mazziotto, Gage McAllister and Hayden Schultz topped the KTM RC390 podium in race two.
