STORY AND PHOTOGRAPHY
BY MIKE EMERY
T
he Lucas Oil AMA Pro
Motocross Champion-
ship headed east to
the beautiful Muddy Creek
Raceway facility in Tennes-
see for the fourth round of
the series, where generally
the east coast soil and ruts
begin to separate the men
from the boys. But not this
year, where the first three
rounds out west proved to
be tougher than usual.
Muddy Creek wasn't quite
as demanding as usual,
giving the racers a bit of a
break.
With rain and thunder-
storms in the forecast, track
prep erred on the side of
caution by not tilling the soil
as deep as usual in prepa-
ration of the said rain, and
when it never came, the
riders were left with a bit of
a tamer, less rutted, course.
Instead, they found loam on
top with hard slick sur-
faces underneath, which, in
itself, proved very tough to
navigate, but the Tennessee
track presented some great
places to pass.
When all was said and
done, the day belonged to
two riders—Ryan Dungey
and Jeremy Martin. Dungey
extended his points lead
with the overall win in the
450 class, as did Martin in
the 250 class.
